Mission Statement

One Iowa is a statewide LGBTQ organization preserving and advancing equality for LGBTQ individuals in Iowa through grassroots efforts and education. Their work includes educating Iowans about the LGBTQ community, training others to ensure LGBTQ Iowans are respected in every facet and stage of their lives, promoting policies within state and local government that protect LGBTQ Iowans, empowering tomorrow’s LGBTQ leaders through training and mentorship, and connecting LGBTQ Iowans with vital resources. They are located at 950 Office Park Rd, Suite 240 in West Des Moines, IA, can be contacted by email at info@oneiowa.org, and can be contacted by phone at 515-288-4019.

Audience Rationale

I decided to use a pathos-based approach to my PSA campaign, as I felt it would be most effective in gaining sympathy and connecting with my audience. I wanted people to feel that there is a human face behind this client, and behind this cause in general. While I could have used factual evidence to persuade people to support One Iowa, I felt it did a disservice to what is a very human centered organization. One Iowa works to preserve human rights, so a human approach is what matched this organization. I chose to depict a fairly domestic scene (mother and son talking) because I felt it made this experience seem more everyday and less strange. I emphasized how important human support is, because that is what One Iowa promises, and they  can only promise this support when the audience supports them.
